The Justice Department will receive 286 million EUR (8.6 billion Sk) in the coming year to cover its operating costs. This represents a 28.9 million EUR (870.6 million Sk) increase for the department compared to 2008. The figure is part of the state budget proposal approved by the Slovak government last week.
Within the amount allocated to the Justice Department, 140 million EUR (4.2 billion Sk) is reserved for the judiciary. This represents a 15.4 per cent increase compared to 2006, and is 8.4 per cent more than in 2007. Judicial expenses within the justice department are split between personnel expenses, and material and technical expenses contributing to the work of the courts and the effective output of district and regional courts. Resources will also be allocated to educational activities, with an emphasis on the education of judges.
